Sonia Ramos - Founder, boxing for christ
Sonia Ramos, born in LA and raised in La Puente, turned her life around after years in the streets and a wake-up call when her son faced 27 years in prison. She made a promise to God: if he saved her son, she’d dedicate her life to helping youth avoid the path she once took. That promise became Boxing for Christ. Over the past 13 years, Sonia’s vision has impacted more than 3,000 young people in the San Jacinto Valley, producing over 50 champions. Her mission is clear—build discipline, self-worth, and purpose through faith and boxing. “Fight for Your City” isn’t just a motto—it’s a mission.
Behind boxing for Christ
Boxing for Christ began with a promise, a prayer, and a second chance. David Flores grew up in San Diego, boxing from age 9 and earning titles across California. But after moving to San Jacinto as a teen, he lost his way—eventually landing in prison. While incarcerated, he reflected on what boxing once gave him: purpose, discipline, and direction. With the support of his mother Sonia Ramos and Uncle Oscar Gonzalez, David helped launch Boxing for Christ—a place where youth could find the same path back. Today, the gym stands as a safe haven for kids chasing goals inside and outside the ring.
